im Museum
The German Association for Museum Education (BVMP) represents, bundles and coordinates the expertise of over 1,000 museum educators across Germany. It promotes professional exchange, networking and cooperation as well as publications and projects that further develop the field of education and communication in a qualitative and forward-looking manner. In 1991, six regional associations merged to form the federal association to represent the interests of education and communication in museums nationwide. We work primarily in the following formats:
Conferences, Training Courses, Network Meetings
The BVMP and its regional associations organise specialist conferences with various cooperation partners, network meetings and training courses. Once a year, the BVMP organises a major (inter)national conference that combines practical work with theoretical aspects.
Specialist Groups
Within the BVMP, specialist groups deal with current and fundamental issues in theory and practice and form nationwide networks. They deal with topics such as children and young people in museums, inclusion and diversity, digitality, the 60-plus generation and education for sustainable development.
Magazine "Standbein Spielbein"
"Standbein Spielbein" is the only specialist magazine for museum education in Germany. It provides comprehensive information on current developments in national and international topics as well as research and projects.
Guidelines & Position Papers
BVMP guidelines provide concise guidance on inclusion and accessibility, cooperation between schools and museums and the fundamental organisation of education and communication in museums. In cooperation with the German Museums Association and NEMO – Network of European Museum Organisations, for example, the Guidelines Developing Education and Public Engagement in Museums were published. The BVMP position papers address current topics, take a stance and offer concrete argumentation aids.
International Networking
The BVMP is a member of various institutions and associations such as the German Cultural Council and the Federal Association for Cultural Education for Children and Young People (BKJ). It also works internationally with various partners.
